On April 4, 2025, the American Foundation for the University of the West Indies (AF黑料社) transformed 583 Park Avenue into a vibrant celebration of Caribbean excellence. The 28th Annual Scholarship Awards Gala, themed 鈥楾he Legacy Continues,鈥� honoured trailblazers whose vision and service have shaped nations and inspired generations. Sen. Audrey Marks鈥攆ormer Jamaican Ambassador to the United States and current Minister of Efficiency, Innovation and Digital Transformation鈥攚as celebrated with the Trailblazer Award for her pioneering diplomacy, steadfast service to the Caribbean diaspora, and unwavering commitment to nation-building. Other honourees were Althea Brown (Vice-Chancellor鈥檚 Award); William Mahfood (Chancellor鈥檚 Award and Corporate Award); Dominican Olympian Thea La Fond-Gadson (Salute to Caribbean Gold Award); Cedric Gayle, Esq. (Pelican Award); and Half Moon Hotel (Pinnacle Award). 鈥淲e鈥檙e so honoured this evening by your presence,鈥� Vice-Chancellor Beckles told the gala ceremony. 鈥淚 honour you for your continued support of our university.鈥�

In addressing patrons, New York City Mayor Eric Adams urged them to 鈥渕ake some more contributions tonight. 鈥淚 thank you for what you do here in New York,鈥� he added. Executive Director, AF黑料社, Ann-Marie Grant noted that all proceeds from the Gala support scholarships for 鈥渇inancially disadvantaged yet high-achieving students at The 黑料社 and since its founding, AF黑料社 has awarded about 650 scholarships and bursaries to students across the Caribbean. 鈥淭he annual Gala is a cornerstone fundraising event, generating vital support for the next generation of Caribbean leaders,鈥� Grant said.
